Tippies & trickies: Sales associate etiquette

We've ALL been there, where we have been treated rudely by sales associates in stores we're shopping or browsing in. Then you sit there and think, "What just happened?". And then plan evil scenarios in your noggin of how to get back at them...

But how was your demeanor? How were you acting? Were you friendly and kind? Did you walk into the store with a smile on your pretty lil face?
Or were you bossing the employees around? People respond to a positive attitude & persona.

When you walk into a store, and you have a scowl on your face and are rude, chances are people won't want to wait on you. They won't go that extra mile to be nice to you. If you do that you'll probably be getting unpleasant right back at ya!

How do you hold yourself in a store. You're body language says a WHOLE lot about you. And sales people tend read it or play off of it.

Just like going into the cosmetic section at a department store, whether you had great self image or if you didn't have great self image that day, those ladies will devour you sometimes, and the minuscule amount of self image that you do have, has completely vanished into thin air after going into that department! They will try and sell you things you know you don't need, but they'll sell it to you by digging into your self image first. If you walked in and you really did like your make-up that day, and a make-up artist came up and started saying, " You NEED me to do your make-up! You look awful..ly tired, let me perk you up."
Kinda rude right? But they are trained to mess with you self image. whether it be with tiredness, pimple-y, wrong lip color, etc. Be careful. But also be nice. If you don't want or need help and someone comes up to you and asks if you need help, just No, but thank you. It's ok to say no. But just don't forget to use your words.

I have some tragic/humorous stories for you:

One time I was attending Fashion night out at my local Neiman Marcus. I was with my mom and we made our way over to Eileen Fisher for mom to look at the collection. Well, at the time I was 23. I felt pretty cute and I was just voicing my opinion(as I always do!) to mom at something she had picked up. Well this sales associate walks up, greets us, shares her name, etc. Then while we're still shopping, she turns to me and promptly says; You know you, A cowl neck makes you look younger... Um, I'm only the ripe age of 23... But yes, ok thanks? But all I did was say Thank you.

Another time when shopping at Neiman's, this time it was at the beloved Northpark. I was shopping in the splendid department. I was tired, I was slouching, knew I needed to stand up straight, but didn't. Well, an older sales associate came up & promptly says to me; Awe when are you due? I looked at her blank faced and said, Oh, I'm not pregnant. Then which I thought she would say "Oh I'm so sorry!". She didn't do that at ALL! I believe she said, "Oh well, the way you were standing, looked like you were! and then she walked away. Yes, that's what slouching looks like... It ain't pretty!

The other day, I went into Ulta, on probably one of the worst days ever! I was so cranky that day! Anyway, I was getting what I wanted & checking out. I had heard a lot about the new Benefit face primer, well it was just sitting there and I was playing with it and had just put it on the back of my hand, near my thumb, then the girl quickly, picked up a spray bottle and started spraying on the opposite side of my hand. First off, I wish she had told me, she was going to spray me, maybe tell me what she was doing, not just assume I knew what was going on.(since I don't particularly like things coming at me.)  Next, as I said before, she sprayed (it was water) me on the other side near my pinky finger. and said, "see look, look how it's beading up on your hand.' I didn't want to disappoint her, but I then said, "Um, I put it on over here." the she said, "No See look, it's beading up." And Then again I said, "well I applied it over here, that's just my skin!" I then picked up my purchase and left. Ugh, it was irritating!

Okay story time is over... So yes, there can be not so bright sales associates. Buuut then, you have such amazing sale associates, you just want to shrink them down and put them in your pocket, they are so good! I just love them! They go the extra mile & are so wonderful!
I think some of my most favorite experiences are from: Nordstrom (Northpark), Madewell (Fort Worth), Fossil (Southlake). They have the best people at these places. Yes, everyone has a bad day. We ALL have foibles from day to day. The important thing to remember is, that sales associates are people too! They are not there just to wait on you. and to be treated like poo from people like you & I. Be considerate, mature, nice, happy, fun, & funny. And usually, once you break the ice, you become a loyal customer & They become a loyal sales associate!

The thing that sometimes gets to me is, when I walk into a store and the sales people are talking amongst themselves, and they don't even acknowledge that you've even entered the store. I just have ignore that, I have to forgive. And that doesn't mean I will never again shop there. But I may talk to a manager from time to time about something that happened in their store. They want a comfortable inviroment for each one of their customers. Because they know if the customer is happy, chances are the customer will spend money.

When I'm not being ignored,
I tend to act like sales people are my friends and we've known each other for forever. I just love comunicating and building relationships. I love giving & receiving compliments. It helps to break the ice, of just being a sales associate & more of a girlfriend talking about fashion & beauty!

Some tips to make your life a lil easier with sales associates:
-Smile
-Make eye conact
-Make a joke
-Compliment them
-Ask for their opinion(you don't have to necessarily take their advice, but at least you asked.)
-Be kind
-Ask how their day has been going
-Make small talk
-Ask if their is anything you can do for them (coffee, prayer, snack, etc.)

If you've been in retail( or you shop a lot,  and you have anything more to add, please don't hesitate to comment! I'd love to here more tips!

I hope y'all have had a great week so far! Love ya, Ryn

Style Find: Nordstrom goodies

Between falling in the shower and bruising my knee on Monday & yesterday stepping on my make-up mirror (Now, I know why I have calluses on the bottom of my footsies!) I've had a pretty adventurous week! How's yours been?! Haha!

So, This past weekend I went to Nordstrom twice! (It was the end of the anniversary sale) And although I wanted to walk a away with a boatload of shoes and handbags, I refrained! I did walk away with some awesome finds though!

Friday I found:
Butter nail polish, they had a deal going on that if you bought 2 bottles of Butter London nail polish you would get one free! And of course I found three I liked from the get go! ; ) and my mama was so generous, that she bought ALL two/three nail polishes!
(Colors are: blue-ish/purple; knackered, copper/champagne; champers & green; wellies.)

And a pair of round sunnies : ) like they are 1970's-esque! Super cute! These were $12.00!

Then on Saturday I found:
MAC candy yum yum lipstick. Super neon. Super cute & super matte! Perfect! Plus my sister blessed me with the lipstick! Bonus!

Then I found some adorable fox post earrings in a gold tone! Super duper cute! It'll be uber cute with the necklace I'm about to make! Which those were $4.00 :)

And I also have been wanting some midi knuckle rings and I totally found some! They were $8.00 for 4! Not too shabby at all!

(Sorry but this was post polishing my nails, excuse the edges!)

Even with this small of purchases, it can totally impact your wardrobe considerably! A more fun & carefree-ness to each of your outfits you pair with. There's no need to ALWAYS buy big purchases for your wardrobe every time you go shopping, you can totally hit the makeup department & jewelry counter when shopping and supplement your wardrobe that way! :)

If you have always thought that Nordstrom was for the hoity-toity, you are totally wrong! Yes they do have items that are $300 for 1 item, but then there are times when you can find a REALLY good item in Nordstrom... For reasonable amount of moola! I would say Nordstrom is a high end way of shopping, but you can get amazing deals too!

Do not be afraid of shopping in Nordstrom! If you are, go to Nordstrom rack first. See how awesome it is, and then proceed to Nordstrom! I'm pretty sure you're going to like it! And in every state & city they are a lil bit different! But still just as much fun! Plus most Nordstrom stores have a restaurant. Plus for an extra pick-me-up there are coffee bars in every store! My two favorite drinks are: cold brew coffee, with Sugar-free  mocha syrup & a lot of half&half and ginger peach ice tea! Soo yummy!

I'm hoping I'll get to the flagship store in Seattle, hopefully in February/March! : ) I'll let you know how that goes! ; )

One pet peeve that I have, I advise you not to do around me, is: to refer to Nordstrom as Nordstrom's. ugh, I cringe when people call it Nordstrom's! It's Nordstrom, people! There is no S on the end! Pronounce it Nordstrom, and I'll be a happy camper! Anyway, that's the end of my rant! Thank you & goodnight! Hahaha!

Well, how'd you like my mini haul?! Was it all that you had hoped for?! (Sarcasm) let me know in the comments down below or on Facebook: Lauryn Bray or on Instagram:@RynB :)

Have a happy day, okay?!

Beauty find: Pacifica Eyeshadow Palette

So if you follow me on Instagram, Facebook, or twitter, then you saw my post about the Pacifica eyeshadow palette I had just bought. I told you I would post about it!

I've been eyeing these palette for the past few months, and it just so happened to be 25% off beauty & vitamins at the place I was shopping, so I bought the two palettes. Their names are mystical & enlighten.
(Wearing enlighten here) (btw, had to get a shot in with my niece-y!)

These eyeshadows are wonderful! I get excited every time I am about to use them! They go on so smoothly. They blend well on your eyelid. I still use my NYX lid base primer. And it plays nicely with it!

Just looked up on their website, www.pacificaparfume.com and they have more palettes to choose from! Yay!
And they are reasonably priced too! The regular price of these palettes with out the discount it $14.00ea. Not bad for 4 eyeshadows!

And I really like the palette idea because, it's compact- so when traveling you don't need to bring so many eyeshadows with you. Your not searching for multiple colors when getting ready and it's easy to choose a color!

Pacifica totally nailed it with these!

Oh and did I mention that:
100% vegan, cruelty-free, formulated without FD&C color, phthalates, talc, parabens or petroleum? I didn't think so!
And it's made in USA. Bonus!

Trish McEvoy did a great thing when creating palettes!

So I give this product two thumbs up! Totally worth your money! : )

Enjoy- Ryn

P.S. Lots to share with you soon! Love you all so much!

P.S.S So I forgot to mention on my blog yesterday that my most favorite thing about those make up palettes, was when you open up the palette, you read "you are so pretty" what great packaging! A boost of confidence for ya right there! But always remember you are pretty, but lets not stop there, you are beautiful, lovely, gorgeous & stunning! Forget the whole average or above average thing. Be the best you you can be. And stay confident in knowing you are pretty, lovely, beautiful, gorgeous & stunning!

Style find: Nordstrom anniversary sale

This is my ALL TIME favorite time of year! The time when Nordstrom sends out their catalogs for their infamous anniversary sale!!! I received mine about a week ago! And I got giddy, just thinking about autumn & clothes! My favorite season for clothes is autumn! Once it hits July, my mind is already on fall clothes & outfits! It's happened like that since grade school. Although I would usually go shopping in August, but why wait?

If they are putting autumn stuff out in July, you might as well peruse the racks and get outfit inspirations too. Take advantage of it. With the Nordstrom anniversary sale, you go into these curtained rooms, where all of the autumn inventory is on sale before it hits the shelves. It's such fun! But I believe you have to own a Nordstrom credit card. But if you know someone who owns a Nordstrom card, make it a shopping date & go with them! It's like attending a private party while you shop! Amazing!

Cashmere, velvet, corduroy, oh my!

My style is always eclectic but I'm liking right now the madewell/free people style. Boho, free, easy & preppy!

On my list for fall:
Denim flare jeans
Flared out tees (HERE)
Cardigans
Cashmere
Sidewalk skimmers from Madewell 1937
Monogrammed The Transport Tote in saddle brown
Heeled leather clogs
Rockstar jeans in batman rinse
Brown ankle boots
Corduroy flare pants
Leather motorcycle jacket

I just LOVE the richness of autumn colors in clothes, such chicness: chartreuse, oxblood, sapphire, onyx, pewter, Bordeaux, orange, tobacco etc!

Here are some of my favorites from the Nordstrom anniversary sale catalog:

Does anyone else like autumn as much as I do?!

Happy outfits, Ryn
