One word: Thrifting.
I have been doing this alot lately. And I've been styling gals, by going thrifting...
Let's face it girls, It's not always easy to throw down $300 for 3 somewhat unique items, when there is a thrift store down the road from where you live... And believe me, I like shopping as much as the next person, or maybe even more! You know the saying, Shop till you drop? I go way past the dropping point, I sometimes wear out my clients, but in turn, I find what there looking for! But anyways, we like to be unique creatures, and sometimes stores don't give us the freedom to explore unique options, so we turn to thrifting.
If you are however, grossed out by wearing someone elses old clothes, It's normal to be. But a good washing usually does the trick! If by chance you pick an item that smells like BO, Don't buy it!
But, you can find fabulous finds, if you look hard enough! Like vintage leather purses, leather belts, skirts, button up collared shirts, cardigans...etc. And then there are times when you can find items you can DIY, Which I love! More on that subject later : )
Just last week, I styled Julianne at a Goodwill here in Saginaw TX.
She bought 7 pieces of clothing and didn't pay over $55.00. If she were to buy 7 pieces in an actual store for quality pieces, her bill would have been over, let's say well over $200 hundred!
She bought some incredible pieces too! And looks that she could intermingle with her other wardrobe. Her favorite store is: Anthrpologie. And all of the pieces look like they came from there that she bought at goodwill.
You want to buy pieces, that fit with your style and that fit you. You don't want to buy something that you with never wear! That just doesn't make sense to me! If you don't love it, don't buy it!
Unless you see it as a project and you will love it after you done making adjustments on it! : )
For me, as a stylist and when I go shopping with a client, I'm there to give support & see things that, you may miss. I love my job. It's great. And it gives my clients a confidence to be beautiful!
This happened with another client:
The unfortunate thing is you may hit bumps & ruts when thrifting, when you don't buy as much because the price is too high for 2 shirts. When you are paying $18.00 for 2 shirts, that's a little high, I think. So be mindful. The most you want to pay is between $1.00-$6.00 for woven shirts!
So then you can find great accessories when thrifting! I don't usually go for shoes, I've only bought two pairs of shoes in all the times of been thrifting! One for $4 and one for $8... So, then I found a cute oxblood(big color for fall) clutch for $5 and one time I found a monogrammed leather coach purse for $4! And then of course you can find scarves and ponchos for low low price!
You see, you can make really cute outfits with almost any type of clothing! It just takes some effort to find the perfect piece(s) to buy at a thrift store... Or a regular store for that matter! But once you find that piece, your outfits will look oh so cute!

J.Crew Matchstick jean in overdyed black denim $115.00

I tell all of my clients to get at least 1 pair of black skinnies. Because, They are sooo versitale, the can go from day to night in a snap of a finger! I love black skinnies! They make you look slimmer, and like you're not trying to hard! And they even go with everything! Any girl can wear these pants, as long as you get them to fit! Fitting is the key! When trying on, make sure you can sit down/squat but snug enough to stay in place and not fidget every 5 seconds! Make sure you can breathe in them and and that you can put one to two fingers in the waistband. Also if you can buy them with lycra, between 1-30%! It helps let tell ya!
Now I know I am showing you high end and low end of denim...
But I wouldn't neccessarily splurge on one pair of jeans. Denim is denim & it does wear out. I would say if you're getting them for a great price, and they fit well, Try and buy 2-4 pair of them and rotate them. That way your not just wearing one pant out then, throwing away & getting a new pair out! Also think outside the box! Think about going to outlet malls, for like J.crew & Gap, or going to H&M or Forever 21. Or going to big sales at Neiman Marcus or Saks Fifth... You don't just have pay Retail. You can definately find deals!
You got this, girl! : )

Going under the knife! Blech!
Sorry y'all, it been a crazy week! I've been healing up from going under the knife! It was unexpected, for sure! Actually, my finger went under the knife! Last Saturday, I was making these most amazing wooden rings out there and its still in progress for Maude C. My other business! So I was twilling/carving away, when I accidentally knifed my finger, so it's been eventful for sure! Life of a jewelry/stylist i suppose! But I'm healing fast! Thank the Lord! Be glad you were not with me the first few days, I don't particularly like blood, and if I see it or know that it's coming out of me, I tend to freak out a bit! Like going white and trying not to faint, believe me, not a pretty sight! Haha! But i had the best doctor around ; ) But the great thing is, I will let you see the finished product soon : ) yay! You're going to love them, I just have a feeling! : )
And stay tuned for the next style post! It's gonna be good! : )

I see layers upon layers!
So for fall, I am seeing layers! I love autumn for the clothes... Among other reasons of course! But as you can see there are so many ways to layer up! And all by looking chic!
It's easy to layer!
Try:
Button-down with a cardigan or crew neck sweater
Long sleeve tee with a cardigan and light jacket
Button down and military jacket and scarf
Long sleeve tee with a puffer vest & scarf
Sweater dress with a button down underneath
Or a maxi dress/skirt with a hoodie on top
A maxi skirt with a plaid shirt and a grandpa cardigan on top
See! I'm telling you, the options are endless! Have fun with it! Have absolutely no pressure!
If you have any other layer combos please comment! I'd love to hear from you! : )
And don't forget the jewels!

God Bless America & All hail the Queen!
I know I'm late on the Pippa & Kate Scene, but I was thinking...
I love their styles. They are Gems in my book! They're simple, they're not over the top, and they're not "ooh look at me"! Their style is bold, yet it's refined, classy, simple, & makes a beautiful impact! Each piece of clothing they're wearing "FITS" them... not their crazy cousin Sam. But actually their bodies! What I don't like seeing is, here in America, that things don't fit properly. I'm all about the boho and the fitted styles. Just get them to fit. Not to look ginormous or like you are fitting in sausage casing. Believe me no one wants to see that! I will probably stress this out on here, but No ready wear,(what you get off the rack) will fit you exactly right, there is only like 2% of clothes that actually look good off the rack without alterations! And when you find that garment, Rejoice! You do not have abnormal body, But designers do use a dress form, because they cannot design for every body type, so they have to pick one & enlarge it for every size... Another thing I could do without is: The elaborate street wear girls are getting from their peers & role models. I don't care who you are, you do not need to dress up like a rainbow everyday! You can choose 3 colors tops to be your pop of color, Standouts in your wardrobe. You can also choose a pattern & a bright color(s). and then accessorize by mixing neutrals with color coordinating pieces, You Don't have to matchy-match, but you can if you'd like! You can still be fun & put together without looking like a candy store! If you really want to go all out you could choose 3 patterns in slightly vintage-y colors. Like exhibit A:
When seeing neutrals don't think of them as dowdy, think of them as a backdrop or blank canvas to project your colors and patterns, to complete a look : )
I hope you enjoyed this! - Ryn

Baggage: Sometimes it's a good thing!
I have a Love/Hate relationship with packing! Love because I'm traveling and looking cute! Hate because I want to pack my entire closet! I've been known to pack 10 pairs of shoes : / Let me just say this it gets pretty heavy when carrying, rolling & picking up your own luggage!
It helps to have cute luggage when packing!
http://www1.macys.com/shop/product/delsey-luggage-karat-hardside?ID=555606&CategoryID=29334#fn=BRAND%3DDelsey%26sp%3D1%26spc%3D11%26ruleId%3D65%26slotId%3D8
http://www.luggageonline.com/product.cfm?product_ID=17860
I'm partial to rolling duffle bags, but I couldn't find the one I have to show you!
And then cute make-up, jewelry & toiletries bags:
http://www.soap.com/p/trina-cosmetic-bags-travel-accessories-avery-travel-train-case-223877
It may look somewhat like alot of things to pack, but I can find at least 13 outfits if not more outfits out of the clothes above! If you're wishing you had the clothes above... You're not alone! I want some of the peices too!
I recommend you do research when traveling! check the weather, check wha the style is there, check out the culture! Also, ask your friends about what they wore, what they did, and if they have any suggestions! Totally worth it! Plus you could go for coffee to talk about it : ) it's a win-win!
I hope this helps when packing! - Ryn

DIY 101: Elbow patches
I'm in love with elbow patches right now! Gah! They are sooo cute! The awesome thing is, you can buy sweaters & jackets with the patches already on them.... Or you can go all creative on yourself and add the patches to your tops of choice! I'm really diggin' heart shaped patches! They look cute & quirky when added to striped shirts : )
What you'll need:
Scissors
Scrap fabric (old woven shirts, knit shirts are harder to work with, but doable!)
Embroidery thread
Heat'n'bond light or pins
Needle
Pencil/pen
Paper
Iron & ironing board
Fold a piece of paper in half, trace half of a heart(3 1/2 in. or an oval 4 1/2in.) , and then cut it out.
Then use it as a pattern to cut out your fabric and heat'n'bond. After you cut out the fabric and heat'n'bond. heat up your iron, then iron the heat'n'bond to your fabric. After it cools, peel the backing off and place it to the area of elbow you want on your garment. Possibly you should mark where you want the patches... And it will become even! So you place the patches where you want them and then iron it on there. Then you thread your needle with embroidery thread and knot it off and do an in-and-out stitch, a whip stitch, a blanket stitch or a cross stitch around your patch that is now connected to your piece of clothing : ) then you after you finish it tie it off and then you'll be good to go! Yay! Good job! You did it!
And then you'll be stylishly chic for fall!
