Style Fyle: everybody needs a lil bit of fancy!

Style Fyle: everybody needs a lil bit of fancy!

This skirt reminds me of a scene in white Christmas... Its pretty safe to say, I think you could swing dance in it.

This skirt is so lovely! I just adore it! These are all of the tops, all shapes, you can wear with this skirt. For the collared shirts, I would tuck them in. And you can tuck in the striped shirt too.

And you can wear ballet flats, heels, platform heels, platform wedges, wedges, etc...

And you can wear sparkly jewels with this outfit. Or you can totally keep it simple.

I encourage you to try a skirt on like this. And I Hope this helps with upcoming moments in your life! -Ryn

2. Use your polish, and polish the bobby pins.

3. Use topcoat to seal it.

Beauty Find: Retro Matte

Yesterday, after church, mom and I decided to run errands. Well, one of my errands was to stop by Nordstrom.  (which is a BIG joke, no one just "stops by" in Nordstrom!) Anyway, we walked in and stayed for awhile, because a couple of weeks ago, my sister gave me a lipstick for running her errands, well that shade wasn't the one I liked, I think was called something Moroccan, so I had tried on lady bug, but they only had one tube left! And some lady snatched it from me. So I chose chili(because the sales girl, and might I add, rude sales girl pressured me into buying it.) Chili is a matte btw, and wasn't the greatest of shades on me... (But if you have it and rock it then more power to ya! 😉) Jokes on her though, I just exchanged it for the lady bug lustre! And I just adore it! It's the perfect fall color... Besides rebel... That ones a rich berry color and it's divine!

I put the same aesthetic into choosing make up as I do with buying clothes and accessories,(and what tell my clients ALL the time, which is: if you don't love it, You will never want to wear it!

I couldn't really get myself to wear that chili lipstick because I didn't feel my most confident self in that shade! For me, it wasn't a shade I was happy to wear! I'm sure most of you know how that is too!
Sorry, when I took this pic I was in a loopy mood!

Here's a real smile! : )

It's simple tactic really, if you love something, you're going feel good about wearing it but if you're "ehh" on an item, chances are you will never feel comfortable wearing it and its better to save your money on something you really do love and buy that!

So just before I end up getting the lady bug shade... I spot MAC's new retro matte collection... Oh man! It was lovely! It has only been on the floor for a week and all of the shades were beautiful! So I contemplated whether to just get one of these matte beauties instead of lady bug or to just tack one of these shades onto my bill... I chose the latter... I bought the 'relentlessly red' and if you ask me, it's not really red, but more of a hot pinky coral. But I just really liked it!

Even though it was the first day of fall, which I can now say "HAPPY FALL!!!"  I can't stray too far away from my bright lips tradition, because I just adore the bold lip look!(It's become my signature look) This shade will work in fall & winter too... or I'll just make it work! They also had a berry color, but they were out of it... Whew! I probably would have bought that one as well...

But you must go see this collection! It's worth it! Or you can go online and check out the outstanding colors! www.maccosmetics.com
Oh and they're $15.00ea.+tax.

And since it's a matte, it is drier & it's harder to reapply when you need to, because sometimes it makes your lips look like you need to scruff them...but the positive side to matte lipsticks are the fact that they act like a stain. And because they are so highly pigmented, they stay on your beautiful pout throughout your day! So buying a matte shade is worth it! I would just use a granulated sugar & olive oil mixture and scruff off the layer of dead skin on your lips before applying! You can also apply some lip balm like EOS or Burt's bees to give your lips a dewy-er look to them.

So anyway, I hope you have a happy Monday & a happy 2nd day of fall!
And go see the new collection... I mean it! ; ) love y'all!

DIY Friday: shoe clips

Yayyy! I'm back ready to DIY! I was inspired by the post from: http://honestlywtf.com/diy/diy-shoe-clips/  (which I'm sure the F stands for fruitcake or some like that! 😉)

I found it by perusing through my Pinterest board: the fashionist: DIY, and my user name is Styledbyryn, incase you'd like to follow... Wink wink!

And unfortunately I didn't have all of the supplies for this project, but I adore the look. You betcha I'll be getting some other clip-on earrings from antique stores, eBay and etsy. These, that are in the pics, are my deceased nana and I would really like to preserve them. But all that to say, I really see these in our futures, as long as we make them to be in our future... (I know, really profound!) but you could totally wear these on a day to day basis or for fancier events. It's up to you! : )

What you'll need:
Shoes
Vintage costume Earrings (preferably clip ons)
E6000 glue
Blank shoe clip hardware
Pliers
Toothpick
And then go to: http://honestlywtf.com/diy/diy-shoe-clips
For the instructions!

Madewell sidewalk skimmers were used for the models of these shoe clips!

It's an easy & quick one, but a lil vintage, glamour & fun way to spruce up ones shoes! : )

I hope you have fabulous weekend and I will see you Monday! -Ryn

Soul searcher: the skinny

So I've been thinking, I want a divorce from sugar. I know it ain't healthy for me & yet I still eat it and feel awful afterwards! I have found myself in a rhythm of eating it. It has to stop! I'm divorcing sugar! I have to get it out of my life for good.

I know that if I get it out of my eating plan, it will in turn help me to lose weight.

I'm tired of looking in the mirror and groaning. I know it may take some time to convince myself I don't want it. (Hopefully not!) Because I'm a girl who likes a scoop of ice cream or a donut on occasion. Once in awhile is "ok", but not on a regular basis. I don't want to have a donut around my waist. It's not attractive. And it's harder to style.

I want to be fit, healthy, strong, beautiful, confident, lean, toned & thin. I would like to buy woven clothes & size medium or large size things in j.crew, Madewell & Anthropologie without garments that pull at the seams. Yeah, I want to totally revamp my eating habits. And have a goal & accomplish it, ya know?!

I also want to get back into the exercise scene. I'm done with not exercising! No more making excuses that I don't have time. If I have time to watch my favorite shows the nights that they're on, then I have enough time to get up and stay active.

I'm always a confident person with my self esteem & self image, but I need to step up my game in the confidence department! I am totally graced to lose weight, to break the strong hold of sugar over my life. Enough is enough. Time to get crackin'! Lets see the results!

If you're in the same boat or a similar boat...or if you've cut sugar out of your lifestyle, or know any awesome exercises that you love, let me know of any tips in the comment section below, please & thank you!

Love y'all! -Ryn

Beauty find: Amika shampoo

Well hey y'all! It has been a busy weekend! With getting the house ready for guests! I kept forgetting yesterday was Sunday, so throughout the day I would have to remind myself that it was Sunday not Saturday! Quite a let down to have lost a day!
www.beautybrands.com

So I know I haven't done a review in quite awhile, and I've been meaning to post this product too, because quite frankly, I really like it! It's Amika color pherfection shampoo. I had never heard of it, but I got it free, when purchasing from Beauty Brands, so I said what the hay! And tried it! It is wonderful. It adds volume, its moisturizing, it brings out the shininess of your hair, and it has the best smell a hair product could possibly have! Incredible product! I color my hair using henna and henna usually lasts a good three months and using this product, I can extend the life of color. It happens to darken my locks. But I will tell you every head of hair is different.

But I would definitely recommend this to you! It does set you back around $22.00 but it lasts a loooong time. Oh and it doesn't lather much, which I seam to tell myself that that is a good thing because sodium lauryth sulfate is such a bad product to use on your body... Not sure if that ingredient is even in Amika. Who knows!

But I say try it! You may like it! ; )

Love ya, Ryn

DIY Friday: Attention

Hey loves! I hope all is well in your corners of the world, wherever that may be! : )

I have some disappointing news for ya, I will not be uploading a DIY today! : (
But I will try and get one up next week! : )

Because I'm helping my mama with an event she's planning, I have put everything pretty much on hold until next week so I can give her most of my attention! I will be back in the swing of things starting Wednesday!

I do want to say, I have been watching fashion week online and so far Rachel Zoe & Nicole Miller are my two faves right now! Haven't watched them all yet, but when I do I'll let you know who really is/are my favorite(s)! And if you'd like to watch too, go to: www.newyorkfashionweek.com. It's quite enjoyable! : )

Also I have been thinking about starting a new miniseries of blogposts, which I would upload on Thursday. I would call it Thankful Thursday, just to get into the spirit of thanksgiving and all that jazz! I would say what I'm thankful for and explain why I'm so thankful for it! I would start the first Thursday of October... What do y'all think? Something I should do? Or not? I would love for y'all to join in and comment or email me with what you're thankful for too!

Also still available to style you! Just email me with what you would like me to do!

If you have any suggestions for the blog, or have a question for me, or would like to get a hold of me, please contact me via email: styledbyryn@gmail.com

Thanks y'all! Love ya, Ryn

Tippies & trickies: Sales associate etiquette

We've ALL been there, where we have been treated rudely by sales associates in stores we're shopping or browsing in. Then you sit there and think, "What just happened?". And then plan evil scenarios in your noggin of how to get back at them...

But how was your demeanor? How were you acting? Were you friendly and kind? Did you walk into the store with a smile on your pretty lil face?
Or were you bossing the employees around? People respond to a positive attitude & persona.

When you walk into a store, and you have a scowl on your face and are rude, chances are people won't want to wait on you. They won't go that extra mile to be nice to you. If you do that you'll probably be getting unpleasant right back at ya!

How do you hold yourself in a store. You're body language says a WHOLE lot about you. And sales people tend read it or play off of it.

Just like going into the cosmetic section at a department store, whether you had great self image or if you didn't have great self image that day, those ladies will devour you sometimes, and the minuscule amount of self image that you do have, has completely vanished into thin air after going into that department! They will try and sell you things you know you don't need, but they'll sell it to you by digging into your self image first. If you walked in and you really did like your make-up that day, and a make-up artist came up and started saying, " You NEED me to do your make-up! You look awful..ly tired, let me perk you up."
Kinda rude right? But they are trained to mess with you self image. whether it be with tiredness, pimple-y, wrong lip color, etc. Be careful. But also be nice. If you don't want or need help and someone comes up to you and asks if you need help, just No, but thank you. It's ok to say no. But just don't forget to use your words.

I have some tragic/humorous stories for you:

One time I was attending Fashion night out at my local Neiman Marcus. I was with my mom and we made our way over to Eileen Fisher for mom to look at the collection. Well, at the time I was 23. I felt pretty cute and I was just voicing my opinion(as I always do!) to mom at something she had picked up. Well this sales associate walks up, greets us, shares her name, etc. Then while we're still shopping, she turns to me and promptly says; You know you, A cowl neck makes you look younger... Um, I'm only the ripe age of 23... But yes, ok thanks? But all I did was say Thank you.

Another time when shopping at Neiman's, this time it was at the beloved Northpark. I was shopping in the splendid department. I was tired, I was slouching, knew I needed to stand up straight, but didn't. Well, an older sales associate came up & promptly says to me; Awe when are you due? I looked at her blank faced and said, Oh, I'm not pregnant. Then which I thought she would say "Oh I'm so sorry!". She didn't do that at ALL! I believe she said, "Oh well, the way you were standing, looked like you were! and then she walked away. Yes, that's what slouching looks like... It ain't pretty!

The other day, I went into Ulta, on probably one of the worst days ever! I was so cranky that day! Anyway, I was getting what I wanted & checking out. I had heard a lot about the new Benefit face primer, well it was just sitting there and I was playing with it and had just put it on the back of my hand, near my thumb, then the girl quickly, picked up a spray bottle and started spraying on the opposite side of my hand. First off, I wish she had told me, she was going to spray me, maybe tell me what she was doing, not just assume I knew what was going on.(since I don't particularly like things coming at me.)  Next, as I said before, she sprayed (it was water) me on the other side near my pinky finger. and said, "see look, look how it's beading up on your hand.' I didn't want to disappoint her, but I then said, "Um, I put it on over here." the she said, "No See look, it's beading up." And Then again I said, "well I applied it over here, that's just my skin!" I then picked up my purchase and left. Ugh, it was irritating!

Okay story time is over... So yes, there can be not so bright sales associates. Buuut then, you have such amazing sale associates, you just want to shrink them down and put them in your pocket, they are so good! I just love them! They go the extra mile & are so wonderful!
I think some of my most favorite experiences are from: Nordstrom (Northpark), Madewell (Fort Worth), Fossil (Southlake). They have the best people at these places. Yes, everyone has a bad day. We ALL have foibles from day to day. The important thing to remember is, that sales associates are people too! They are not there just to wait on you. and to be treated like poo from people like you & I. Be considerate, mature, nice, happy, fun, & funny. And usually, once you break the ice, you become a loyal customer & They become a loyal sales associate!

The thing that sometimes gets to me is, when I walk into a store and the sales people are talking amongst themselves, and they don't even acknowledge that you've even entered the store. I just have ignore that, I have to forgive. And that doesn't mean I will never again shop there. But I may talk to a manager from time to time about something that happened in their store. They want a comfortable inviroment for each one of their customers. Because they know if the customer is happy, chances are the customer will spend money.

When I'm not being ignored,
I tend to act like sales people are my friends and we've known each other for forever. I just love comunicating and building relationships. I love giving & receiving compliments. It helps to break the ice, of just being a sales associate & more of a girlfriend talking about fashion & beauty!

Some tips to make your life a lil easier with sales associates:
-Smile
-Make eye conact
-Make a joke
-Compliment them
-Ask for their opinion(you don't have to necessarily take their advice, but at least you asked.)
-Be kind
-Ask how their day has been going
-Make small talk
-Ask if their is anything you can do for them (coffee, prayer, snack, etc.)

If you've been in retail( or you shop a lot,  and you have anything more to add, please don't hesitate to comment! I'd love to here more tips!

I hope y'all have had a great week so far! Love ya, Ryn

Style Fyle: Basically classic

Style Fyle: midi dress

I have noticed lately, that I need to posh up my wardrobe. I find it slightly hard to find thing to wear when going out. And seem to be wearing the same things. I want to revamp my closet.
It doesn't help with weather in 100's. but come fall I will be getting some basic pieces to wear.

All of these pieces are basics, and yet they all make such a great outfit. Functional yet exquisite. It's edgy, classic & simple.

This will be perfect for fall and possibly for a mild winter day.

For a day look, I paired a pair of converse high tops with the entire look, and I may not put the necklace with the day look.

But for night, I would totally put the heels on and the necklace, and possibly change the leather jacket to a smart blazer. But you wouldn't have to.

Keep the jewels relatively simple. Use some lipstick to brighten up the look! : ) You know me, I will always suggest a playful lip. : )

So if you are like me, then you may want or need to redo your wardrobe. Don't freak out if you don't like shopping, it no biggie, really! I'm finding myself really liking h&m, you can find neutrals & monochromatic things there, and they are inexpensively priced too! So that may be one of the best places to look for pieces. Also gap is another choice to find classic pieces. They won't have a drapey dress like that, but they may have a nice French terry cowl neck dress. You'll just have to play one weekend & totally go into some stores.

Some helpful hints to shop for basics:
-Set a budget.
-Go for neutrals.
-Pick 2 trends to try.
-This is just me, but I like to buy genuine leather shoes & purses. It wears so much better than faux leather. But for trends, I don't mind buying fake leather, because I know these trends won't last long.
-If you don't have any lip colors to brighten up your face, go for a red or pink & later on branch out to other colors. MAC & NYX are two of my favorites.
-Pack a snack. If you don't want to stop for lunch, put trail mix or a protein bar in your bag.
-Use a cross body bag. I myself, getting tired lugging around a satchel sometimes.
-Keep hydrating yourself. Whether it be water or coffee. Keep in hand.
-Make a list of things you would like to try. Try not to stray away from them too much. If you do, your budget will suffer.
-try things on. It will help.
-bring a friend.
-or hire me

Hope this helps!!! -Ryn

P.s. question for you, if you're reading this and have been or living in NYC, could you give me any suggestions of areas, restaurants or shopping I need to go to while I'm there?! I need all of the answers I can get!
Thanks y'all!

I also have a new DIY for you! Super easy. Super cute for all sorts of outfits!

Stamp
Jacquard paint
Foam brush
Jeans
Iron

1. Grab your jeans.

2. Turn them inside out.

3. Lay them on a flat surface.

4. Stamp your design onto your jeans. I stamped from ankle, 12inches up.

5. To Overlap design, Lay stencil on your stamped pattern, and add paint to stencil.

6. Then lay paper towels on each pant leg, and repeat the same process that you did with the front of the leg.

7. Hang to dry for 24hrs.

Tippies & Trickies: Customer service

I, for one like when an online store or walk-in store have great customer service! I tend to shop from them on a regular basis from then on out. It's helpful when they're friendly & courteous or when they email you back in a timely manner, and answer as many questions they possibly can that you have asked.

Believe me, I have had my own run ins with not so friendly sales associates too. I think it's safe to say we all have!

But another thing that gets me is a good return policy! I know, it's probably the last thing on your mind when purchasing, but it's always a handy thing to have in your back pocket when something doesn't fit right or if damaged. I for one, need to know what stores have good return policies, 1. because I like to know & 2. because then I can help my clients any way I can!

And I'm always so surprised when a friend thinks they can't return an item or items to a certain store, because they think that every store has the return policy of Forever 21, Thankfully not every store has that return policy. Do your research. It's super easy now that we have smartphones attached to our hips practically! It's super easy to find out. And that info is on there for your benefit, so that if something like a fit issue or you don't like the coloring, you won't feel gipped out of your money.

I have a list of the places that have great customer service & return policies:

Because we provide you with only one pre-paid shipping label per order, we suggest you wait for receipt of all items on your order before beginning the return/exchange process. After receiving all items on your order, please place all return items into one shipping box (any type of shipping box) to take advantage of the free return postage. You can return your order for up to 60 days from the purchase date, except for orders places on Shoebuy's Private Event site, events.shoebuy.com. Orders placed between November 1, 2012 — January 1, 2013 are eligible for the 90 Day Holiday Return Policy. Items that you return or exchange must be in the condition that you received them and in the original box. Shoebuy does not guarantee wear or tear or any damage unrelated to the manufacturer.
  • We will send you an email confirming your request, including the 18-digit tracking number on the pre-paid UPS shipping label and a link to track the package. Once we receive your return item(s), we will credit your original payment method for the full purchase price of each item in the return shipment. Once UPS shows that we received your return package, allow 3-5 business days for your credit to be issued.
  • Please allow 1-2 weeks following receipt of your return for exchanges to arrive, if you requested an exchange. We will send you an order confirmation email for your exchange order as soon as it is placed. If you are in a hurry, return your original item for a refund and place a new order online for your replacement item. This will expedite your receipt of the new/replacement item.
  • Please note, Shoebuy.com can only provide free return shipping for items shipped from a U.S. address. If you are returning an item within our 60 Day Return Policy from an address outside the U.S., please ship to: Shoebuy.com / Attn: Returns / 34 Cabot Road / Woburn, MA 01801. If you are returning an item within our 90 Day Special Return Policy, please follow the same procedure. In addition, please clearly write your Shoebuy.com Order Number on the outside of the shipping box. If you have any questions regarding returns from an address outside the U.S., please call Shoebuy.com Customer Service. For Customer Service contact information and phone hours, click here.
  • Please do not send your order to the manufacturer. We will take care of everything for you.
* Shoebuy.com free return postage does not apply to orders/merchandise being returned from locations outside of the United States and APO/FPO locations, or on return of items purchased from Shoebuy Private Event sales at Shoebuy's Private Event site, events.shoebuy.com.

Style Fyle: Work it girl!

Style Fyle: Work it girl!

The ultimate work outfit... And then out to dinner & drinks after work. This outfit has so many elements to it, the hip hugging pencil skirt, the white blazer, the fox silk sleeveless blouse. All the way down to the cocktail ring and brooches. Perfection!

I'm picturing a confident woman in this get-up. That she will slip the skirt on that morning, then put the blouse on, half tucked of course! Then pop on the blazer, roll the sleeves up to give it a more comfortable vibe. Then add the jewels to the look, and those shoes! Add the three brooches to one of the lapels of the blazer, to add a new element to the mix.

If she should have long hair, where it in a high pony tail... If not a sleek do, will do! You will be Gorgeous no matter what! Keep the make-up simple and add a bold crimson or berry lip. And you'll sell that look! And for dinner slip the blazer off. And just dine in the skirt and & blouse.

Have confidence in every outfit you wear. People, especially women can smell insecurity & defeat a mile away! Strut your stuff, you got this! And when all else fails, kill 'em with kindness!
