Styled: Therese

So, about a 2 months ago, I styled this wonderful woman. She wanted a new perspective on the way she could dress. A type of youthfulness, really. Her only two requirements were that I couldn't style her like Madonna or lady gaga. And that was totally fine by me! Her style was and still is conservative. I never want to change her style status, but i do want to switch it up, updated, youthful and let her style reflect all the good things going on in her life! So when I went into her closet and started pulling outfits together I received a lot of "I would never have put THAT together!". If I hear those words I know I'm doing a my job! So yes, I still kept her true style of conservative there, but I added a splash of fun and youthfulness to her wardrobe. Just by pairing things, that 1. Are a bit out of her comfort zone and 2. That are not necessarily matching, took her wardrobe and herself to whole other level.
So each time I style someone, I take pictures of the outfits we come up with, it's always nice to have a visual. To see and say "oh this really does look good" or "I never would have put that together but I can see it works." By putting yourself in those outfits and taking pictures you have visual of how it really looks on you and you have reference of outfits you can duplicate again or switch it and put some creativity out there. It's your choice what you do! 😃

I think these rules are good for any age! Don't just think this is for older gals, younger gals need the same set of rules too!

It's totally acceptable to mix things up without the worry of looking like your daughter or a teenager for that matter when you are 40+.

Be sure to find things that fit. Try not to do low cut things, and if you do, wear a cami underneath.

Slits on skirts are not forbidden, but be mindful of where they hit you. If they hit you inches away from your hiney cheeks, it's not a good look.

It's acceptable to have nice fitting clothes without look like your clothes were painted on or you look like you have a sausage casing on. So be mindful of having clothes skim your body rather than the 2 ideas up top, when trying things on.

Be aware what size you really are and own it! Don't be ashamed or anything like that! You are beautiful at any size. Just be a healthy you.

If you don't want to look like a teenager, stop buying things in the junior section. 1. It's not always a good way to go. 2. It's on the cheaper side of clothes. It's not good quality. It'll only last you a couple of season and the poof you get a hole in it. If you're only shopping there to on-trend prices for on the cheap than I say ok, but if you're shopping there for staples, I suggest you go other stores to find those great pieces. And the size in juniors is always messed up! It's odd numbers and you're instead going to be a 2 normal sizing but a 3 in juniors...

If you find yourself in the junior section, who do you see around you? Do you see people your age or do you see teens & Tweens shopping beside you?

Mini skirts aren't a great look on anyone, unless done right. I think the mid thigh is the highest hemline that you should approach in your style. Any higher and you could look a bit hoochie...

The whole jeans and stilettos thing is so overrated. You can still wear jeans with a great wedge, or peep toes, but the stilettos and jeans thing, that should be left in back burner, because so many women destroy that look. They seem to think that if you have nice shoes, and you pair it with casual pieces then you automatically look dressier when pairing those heels with that casual top and jeans. There is a time and place and a knowledge to style them with things.

I'm sure I'll post more style tips again!
I hope you're enjoying all of these reads! Please let me hear feedback from you! I'd love to hear what you have to say!

DIY Friday: Polka dotted jeans

So I adore these jeans! They are sooo cute! Unfortunately I haven't made them yet, I just saw them on someone on instagram who I follow... But I'm thinking I will in the few weeks! (and yes I will post pictures!)

I'm not one to post a diy on here without testing it first, but it's been kinda busy!

Disclaimer: Polka-dots will not make you look wider on you lower half, that's just your imagination. If you style these right, you're as good as gold!
And by adding polka dots to Mom jeans will not improve or update them. You should give those suckers away! Nobody should still be wearing them. They don't flatter any figure!

See! Aren't these the cutest!?

My recommendation, is to use boyfriend jeans or skinny jeans for this project.
and I also think you could use any wash. either way you are going to wind up with really cute jeans! Like Madewell1937 Cute!

So what you'll need:
Jeans: Boyfriend or skinny
Bleach Pen
Paper plate
A stamper foam brush
Latex gloves

I would a test first on a scrap of fabric first...
(Use gloves when using bleach)
1.Wash and dry the jeans, then slip a piece of waxed paper inside it to prevent bleed-through.
2.First I would go ahead and put trash bags on the surface wear you'll be bleaching, Maybe outside...
3.Lay your jeans out flat.
4. Squeeze out some bleach gel on the paper plate, load up you foam stamper and lightly stamp on you pair of jeans all over. You don't want to stamp too hard, then you will not get an accurate circle. the bleach may still bleed a bit, just warn you.
5.Let dry and flip to the other side.
And repeat.
6.wash your jeans. iron & roll 'em up. and enjoy!

So excited to try this! I have the perfect pair in mind too! : )
Let me know when you try this!

Love ya, Ryn

Styled: Jasmine

So I just went thrifting with my client Jasmine... And I went to thrift shops I was recommended to try and we scored on some great staples & some fun items for her! Alot, Alot of tops! Which is great! Tops are an easy way to transform your wardrobe! The places we went, both had brand name items scattered throughout! Like: Splendid, Nieman Marcus, Anthropologie Brands, Velvet, Michael Stars, Eileen Fisher, D&G, you name it, they had it! Those place are now on my list of thrift stores to go to! and to style clients there aswell! (I even found some things too.) Plus the day we went, it just happened to be, if you had a pink tag, it was a dollar! Hallelujah!
Then after we went thrifting that day we ended the day at Anthropogie, J.crew & Madewell... What a shame, okay not really! ; ) I made another girl fall in love with Madewell! I'll just make a list of how many now ; )

Jasmine's reason for going was she wanted new clothes, She had never been thrifting and we both had free time to go! In May, I'll be taking her shopping to Northpark in Dallas.

So Jasmine got 11 tops & sweaters and one pair of jeans, Plus a vintage train case (for storing nailpolishes in) for, are you ready for this? $77.94! Approximately, that's $6.49 each piece! Not too shabby! You can't really go into a store and come out with clothes that are only that minimal of a price! and that you know there aren't too many girls walking around in the same exact tops! It's fabulous! And all of the clothes were taken care of really well!

Tips & tricks: Thrifting

Some tips and tricks when Thrifting:

1. Avoid the bathroom at all times! I'm sorry but when you walk into a thrift store and it already smells, I can't imagine how good the bathrooms could be! I try and go somewhere beforehand or after. NEVER do I go at the thrift store.

2. If you carry a nice purse with you, aka a coach or an LV , You probably shouldn't, before you leave home, switch out your purse, so it's not obvious that you have money to spend! I haven't had this happen to me, but 1. Patrons that are shopping like you will look at your purse like a piece of meat... or the employees will jack up the prices of the things you want to buy! So, just switch out your purse! It helps!

3. Always carry a bottle of hand sanitizer with you. Because it's just handy & useful, I never leave the house with out it! Or if I do, I stop at the store & buy one.

4. If trying on shoes, wear socks until you can disinfect them!
Kinda like the airport security, my feet will not touch the airport floor without socks! I don't know what nasty feet have touched those shoes! And ain't nobody got time for that!

5. Keep yourself satiated. Go out to eat or have a energy bar in hand! Or chocolate works too! also coffee, water, smoothie, anything is better than nothing! We don't want you do be hangry when thrifting! Doesn't call for a good thrifting experience!

6. Never be ashamed to ask for a discount! It always helps!

7. Take a friend! The judgement helps! and the company is usually enjoyable! unless they are perpetual Debbie Downers!

8. If you intend to try on pants, please wear underwear! I was shopping with a friend once, and she informed be she doesn't underwear with jeans, so that day she was trying on pants from the thrift store, I was definitely repulsed by that! I for one, do not want my down south to touch anything that I know hasn't been properly washed by me, in my washer! Ain't going there!

9. Wear a bra, if trying on tops & dresses, you won't get an accurate fit, if you do not have a foundation for it!

10. Have fun! It's an enjoyable sport! You can find incredible things when you actually take the time and look! 😊

If I think of anything else I 'll be sure to keep you posted! ; ) -Ryn
